From a personal need to a platform.
It started with a hard truth: when a loss happens, families are often left sorting through scattered accounts, missing documents, and decisions no one wrote down. There had to be a better way.
BestFarewell grew from that need into a platform that helps families organize what matters, share a living plan, and face life’s transitions with confidence instead of confusion.

Founder & CEO
Jay Wilburn is the Founder and CEO of BestFarewell, an AI-powered platform that helps families organize, plan, and prepare for end-of-life before the crisis arrives.
He built BestFarewell because of his grandfather.
When his grandfather passed away, Jay's family had no idea where anything was. No documents. No roadmap. No way to know what he wanted or where to begin. They spent years piecing together a life's worth of decisions that had existed only in one man's head. Jay went looking for a tool that could have helped them. It didn't exist. So he built it.
Jay brings 15 years of software engineering experience from companies including HubSpot, C.H. Robinson, and Caesars Entertainment, along with a track record of helping founders build products that have generated millions in revenue across multiple industries. He understands how to build software that works at scale and how to build products that work for real people in real moments.
BestFarewell sits at the intersection of AI, family wellness, and financial preparedness. Jay believes technology has a meaningful role to play in how families navigate life's most important and most avoided conversations, and he's built a platform that proves it.
He is based in the Chicago area, where he continues to build, ship, and show up for the families BestFarewell was created to serve.
