Settle — a shared probate workspace
Organize next steps, supporting records, and family participation after a death.
Settle helps you keep track of estate administration one task at a time. Open Settle in your dashboard and choose a deceased family member already recorded in Roundtable.
Getting started
In the guided workspace, add the state, county, estate time zone, and what you know about the probate process. “I’m not sure” is a valid starting point. Save incomplete setup and return later. Existing executor, attorney, and will information remains in the person’s Roundtable record.
Preview the starter checklist before adding it. It offers general organizing steps and links to official resources, without filling in legal deadlines. Probate routes vary; a formal court proceeding may not be required. Confirm the appropriate process with the relevant court or an attorney. The state court directory can help you find official information. The California Courts overview illustrates one jurisdiction’s process.
Working together
The overview shows next actions and waiting tasks. Open a task to read suggested steps, assign responsibility, record a confirmed due date and its source, add notes, or link accessible supporting files. A separate Mark complete button records completion and offers Undo.
Managers control assignments, deadlines, the checklist, and workspace closure. Assigned relatives can update task status, record waiting details, add notes, and link files they can already access. An eligible family owner’s plan includes active family collaborators; members with their own eligible plan retain independent access.
Tasks completed measures checklist work. Not applicable tasks are listed separately. Completing the checklist does not establish legal closure: a manager explicitly closes the workspace and can reopen it later.
Documents and family updates
The Documents tab shows accessible files associated with the deceased and linked tasks. Uploading opens the existing Documents workflow with the person selected. Linking a file never grants additional access. Cornerstone’s executor-only sharing remains separate.
“Will reported” means the family recorded that a will exists. “Location recorded” identifies where it is kept. Neither means a document has been uploaded or is accessible to you.
Post family updates from the overview or Updates tab. Relatives can reply. Activity records who changed tasks and when.
Email preferences
Choose instant, daily, or weekly email and your time zone. Daily summaries are scheduled for 9 a.m.; weekly summaries for Monday at 9 a.m. Task reminders go to the assignee, or managers when unassigned, seven days before a recorded due date, on that date, and once after it becomes overdue. Completed, skipped, and closed workspaces do not receive task reminders. SMS is not offered.
The guided workspace and email delivery are being introduced by family pilot. Available screens may differ during rollout. Settle is an organizing aid; accounting, court filing, legal deadline calculation, and distribution decisions remain outside this workspace.
