Managing Relationships
How family relationships work in BestFarewell and how to organize your family tree.
Relationships in BestFarewell connect your family members and shape how memorials and obituaries are presented. Understanding how they work helps you keep your family tree clear and meaningful.
How Relationships Work
Each family member is linked to you (the account holder) by a relationship type. Common options include spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, aunt, uncle, cousin, and in-law. These connections form your family tree and show who is related to whom.
Relationship Types
When you add a member, you choose their relationship to you. That relationship is used across the platform—in your family overview, on memorial pages, and in obituaries. For example, if you mark someone as "parent," they'll appear as your parent in any memorial you create for them.
Memorials and Obituaries
When you create a memorial or obituary for a deceased family member, their relationship to you is already set from your family profile. That information helps visitors understand the family structure and ensures the tribute reflects your family accurately. You can edit a member's relationship at any time from the Family section; updates will apply to future memorials and obituaries.
